These changes can be similar but different in regards to placement and convenience. On the other hand it maybe a new; innovation for this model vehicle. One of the newer advancements sold by automakers is the hands free phone system. This system is not exactly supported by the government according to a, web article from intranet magazine The Week. ââ¬Å"LaHoodââ¬â¢s crusade against texting while driving was bad enough, but this draconian ban is ridiculous. It wont make roads safer ââ¬â cell phone bans in three states didnt reduce accidents ââ¬â its just the latest intrusion by the federal government into a matter better left up to the states. (Staff, 2010) However, many people who are responsible drivers would tell you that this feature is necessary. Having the ability to dial, answer and talk on your cell phone by voice control without using your hands is a welcome addition in this busy world of constant communication. Not having to hold the phone, dial and talk on it wh ile driving is very safe for drivers who understand the consequences. To push the point a little further as new, innovations make cars smarter they also demand that the driver be more, informed about how to use these improvements properly and safely. With any new product sold to the public trial and error will prove its reliability. If a new product or improvement to a specific car fails or causes the driver or its passenger to get hurt due to this failure. The rest of the automotive world will take note and take the necessary steps to change or repair the system that may be at fault if there, system works in the same fashion via the recall process. Once all of the changes are, made and the car is deemed, safe again. We may see a new automaker at the next years auto show featuring their new product with these improvements for this system. Thus, creating a new product that can be, marketed to the consumers may like the new changes. This type of market impact on a device of this nature may put hands free devices in cars back on the good list with those opponents of this sort of tech. As innovation changes new things are, learned each day. Change is a relevant fact and as the changers of innovation, we determine what changes we will use. Reference Staff, T. W. (2010, 10 18). Founded in 1981, the privately held company now wants to expand its operations internationally. MVC Consulting is considering venturing into the German market. The research paper aims at developing an analysis of Germany as a potential market for the services offered by MVC Consulting.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on A Culture Briefing of Germany specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The paper will provide a history of Germany, its location and size, political system, economic system, traditions, language, values and ethics, and business practices, among others. Following the analysis, a recommendation shall be provided on whether MVC Consulting should consider investing in Germany. Culture Analysis Location Germany is located between Poland and France near the North Sea. The Weste rn European country shares its borders with Czech Republic to the east, the Baltic Sea and Denmark to the north, France to the Southwest, and Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg to the northwest (Beevor, 2003). History The Germanic tribes date as far back as the Pre-Roman Iron Age and Nordic Bronze Age. Starting from the 1st century BC, these tribes are believed to have moved from north Germany and southern Scandinavia and expanded to the east, west, and south. From these locations, they encountered the Baltic, Iranian, Slavic, and Celtic tribes in Eastern Europe (Claster 1982, p. 35). By AD 100, some Germanic tribes were already occupying the region along the Danube and Rhine. The Alamanni, Chatti, Saxons, and Thuringii, are some of the large Germanic tribes that emerged in the 3rd century. Around 260, Rome started to decline, Germanic tribes started occupying lands hitherto occupied by the Romans. By 395 AD, they had managed to advance further south-east. At the same time, a numb er of the large Germanic tribes had started replacing the smaller tribes in modern day Germany (Bowman, Garnsey Cameron, 2005, p. 442). The Franks occupied the Austrasia, while the Slavs and Saxons ruled Northern Germany. Between 1138 and 1254, during the reign of the Hohenstaufen emperors, the German princes asserted their influence eastwards and southwards, and occupied the Slavs territories. In 1315 and from 1348 to 50, the Greta Famine and the Black Death respectively led to a drastic reduction in population of Germany.Advertising Looking for research paper on cultural studies? The German Confederation was founded in 1814, after Napoleon I of France had been defeated. In 1862, a major conflict emerged between King William I of Prussia and the liberal parliament on military reforms. C onsequently, Otto von Bismarck was appointed by the King as the new Prime Minister. The assassination of the crown prince to Austria on June 28, 1914 triggered the First World War. Some of the territories acquired by Germany prior to World War II include Czechoslovakia and Austria (Beevor 2003). In 1945, Germany surrendered when it was defeated in the Second World War, prompting the partitioning of the remaining German territory. Thus Germany was divided into West Germany and East Germany. This arrangement lasted until 1990, when Germany reunified, after the Berlin wall was brought down. Size The size of Germany is estimated at 357, 021 sq. km. Political System Germany is characterized by a representative democracy. The country also enjoys both a parliamentary and federal system of government (Claster, 1982). A federal convention elects the president. The federal convention is made up of state delegates and the parliament (Bundestag). The president of parliament is ranked second aft er the president, in line with the order of precedence in Germany. He is charged with the responsibility of supervising the daily parliamentary sessions. The Chancellor comes in third. The president of the parliament appoints the Chancellor once he has been elected by Parliament. The role of the Chancellor is to exercise executive powers of the government. Economic System Germany has embraced a social market economy. It is made up of a large capital stock and a highly qualified workforce. The level of corruption is also very low (World Bank, 2009). German has a very high level of innovation (CIA, 2010). Germany is the worldââ¬â¢s largest economy in terms of nominal GDP. In Europe, Germanyââ¬â¢s economy is the largest (Boston Consulting Group, 2009).Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on A Culture Briefing of Germany specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Much of the countryââ¬â¢s GDP is contributed by its service sector, estimated at 71%. Industries come second, at 28%, with agriculture only contributing a partly 0.9% of the GDP. In 2010, Germany had a 7.5% unemployment rate. Language German is the countryââ¬â¢s predominant and official language (European Commission, 2006). The European Union has also recognized German as one of the 23 official languages. Further, the German language has been recognized by the European Commission as a working language within the EU, and there are only three such languages. The predominant immigrant languages in Germany are Kurdish, Turkish, the Balkan languages, Polish, and Russian. Traditions When meeting or leaving someone, shaking hands is a common practice. The older person or woman often offers their hand first. Calling acquaintances by their first name is unwelcome, unless you have been invited to do so. Germans do not normally tip waiters at a restaurant. However, they have a habit of rounding off the charges they have incurred. For example , if one has incurred a restaurant charge of 7.3 Euros, they will round it of to 8 Euros. A 16 % VAT is always added on any purchase that you make while in Germany. Upon leaving Germany, tourists are usually refunded the money that they incurred in the form of VAT. Speaking to a German with your hands in the pocket is seen as a rude gesture. Values and ethics Germans have strong Christian values, mainly influenced by Western European culture. The Germans upholds the pursuit of happiness, life, and liberty. In Germany, contracts are important, and individual rights are upheld. Order is also a very vital goal of the society. Personal achievements and execution of power are also primary motivations of Germans (Tian, 2004, p. 33). Characteristics of the Culture Major popular and intellectual currents including secular and religious events in Europe have helped to shape culture in Germany. Cultural institutions are often headed by the federated states with more than 25,000 libraries and 240 subsidized theaters spread across Germany, a lot of people enjoy these cultural opportunities every year (Wasser, 2006).Advertising Looking for research paper on cultural studies? Moreover, Germany is socially and morally tolerant towards lesbians and gays. The country has also altered its attitudes towards immigrants with the government allowing controlled migration into the country on the basis of oneââ¬â¢s qualification standards. Business Practices In any business transaction that involves Germans, it is important to ensure that you value punctuality. For example, you should ensure that you arrive for business meetings on the stipulated time. To be late for even 5 or 10 minutes, and more so among the subordinates, is often frowned upon. Such an action may also jeopardize your business relations in future (Lynn, n. d.). However, in case your lateness cannot be avoided, the most ideal thing to do is to ensure that you call your business associates ahead of time and inform them that you will be ruing late. Germans values honesty very much and with a good explanation, you will be in good terms with them. With regard to conversational themes, the distinction between personal and social time is very clear in Germany. As such, one should not anticipate an evening out with your German host every evening. Germans often assume that just as they have personal matters to attend to, so do you. One is also advised against delving into such topics as the Holocaust and World War II. In addition, avoid such personal questions as salaries and remunerations. Tips for leading in this country If at all MVC Consulting hopes to succeed in its quest to enter into the German market, it must value efficiency and hard work in all its operations. These two traits are valued highly by Germans. In addition, the company also needs to ensure that it offers quality services. The management also needs to ensure that it makes decision after precise and thorough analysis of the information at hand. Furthermore, the company should also anticipate minimizing risks because in the German economy, security is a lifeline. If for example the company promises to deliver a given service at a specific time, then it needs to honor the pledge. Taking oneââ¬â¢s business serious is a widely entrenched value in the German culture and German managers are often built upon this foundation. If at all MVC Consulting hopes to cordial business links with other companies in Germany, there is the need to accord recognition to its business partners . In university institutions for example, the organisational environment may create excitement and hence foster high quality education and learning.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Influence of organizational image on outcome specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Thus the organisational structure and the management style adopted by the institutional may inspire and motivate the learning processes or may fail to encourage learning culture in students in the university. The aim of every university is to help learners acquire skills, knowledge and experience while also helping them become flexible in their thinking and conceptualisation so that they are able to meet complexities in their day-to-day lives. Universities therefore focus to help each student explore and recognize various alternative worldviews, practices, technologies and innovations among others. These desired changes in learners are achieved by involving all the personnel in the universities including lecturers and subordinates; the management, resources and the learners themselves. According to Beer and Nohria (2000, 140) an ideal organisation should be able to balance between the O and E strategies. This implies that an institution should be able to balance between meeting the needs of the students and the needs the university staff and be able to integrate the ideas of the organisation. The institutionââ¬â¢s management should be ready to listen, debate and also willing to learn from both sides. The management should be ready to integrate the ideas of the university staff particularly the lecturers and technicians who constantly interact with the students as well as the studentsââ¬â¢ views on the direction of their learning. This means that the institution should be able to use the students and the university staff as the c onsultants besides the outside consultants to be able to ensure quality outcome in students. An institutionââ¬â¢s image is also enhanced by the level of motivation it offers to the university staff and the students. Recognizing the performance and commitment of the staff in achieving the objectives of the university also encourages the students to follow in the footsteps of their lecturers and other staff who are working hard to help them achieve their goals. The staff may be given monetary rewards or other forms of rewards which encourage achievement of the organisational culture and objectives. The students on the other hand may be awarded scholarships, opportunities for exchange programmes with other universities in other countries or opportunities to represent the universities in forums and congressional meetings. The students hence practically learn the importance of giving rewards and various reward schemes that could be applied in their real working experience. According t o Beer and Nohria (2000, 140) giving of rewards represent a fair exchange of values between the institution and individuals in the institution.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The managementââ¬â¢s commitment to providing of total-quality training programs to students and the university staffs also reflects the quality of outcome from the university (Morgan 2006, 106). The universityââ¬â¢s commitment to provide resources to facilitate learning and the universityââ¬â¢s openness to help learners experiment on their talents help promote diverse quality outcome. Universities should be able to access the status and the progress of every programme it offers to students and other customers and review them to be able to align them with the goals of the institution. It should also be able to review the capacity of its teaching staff as well as other staffs who suppo rt the teaching and learning process in meeting the objectives and be able to improve their capacities. When the university encourages experimentation through provision of adequate and modern facilities, the students as well as the university staff are better enabled to expand their knowledge, skills and experience and therefore they become very innovative and creative in tackling challenges. Besides, both the university staff and the students become more receptive to new ideas. In achieving the goals of the university as well as that of its stakeholders, the university has to eliminate the boundaries that may exist in its communication processes so as to achieve high-involvement of all the individuals in the institution. The Templars were tried as Devil-Invoking heretics. Anyone who could actually read so-called witchcraft texts was often suspected of being in league with the Devil merely because they were literate. Thus the elite were in some way condemned by the spread of a popular culture of fear regarding witchcraft. The "Caroline Code", the basic law code of the Holy Roman Empire (1532) imposed heavy penalties for witchcraft. As society became more literate (due mostly to the invention of the Printing Press in the 1440s), increasing numbers of books and tracts fuelled the witch fears. More people were becoming literate, books were cheaper to print and thus became available in greater numbers and were within reach of more of the population. Witchcraft was thus more likely to occur within the logic of the Witch Craze mindset. A sense of community, both within the wide context of countries and within local areas, was starting to break down because of the growth in a peculiar kind of paranoia. In 1630 the nuns of Loudun provided an interesting view of the Witch Craze and the extremes to which it could go. The nuns conspired to accuse Father Urbain Grandier of witchcraft by faking symptoms of possession and torment. They feigned convulsions, rolled and gibbered on the ground, and accused Grandier of indecencies. Grandier was convicted and burned at the stake. But after his death, and thus after the plot had succeeded, the symptoms of the nuns only grew worse, and they became more and more sexual in nature. This shows the degree of mania and insanity present in such witch trials. Community had often broken down into a series of groups that were always suspicious of others and afraid of being accused themselves. The breakdown of community reflected the wide rift that occurred during the period between Catholics and Protestants. Catholics often accused Protestants of witchcraft, such as when the Jesuits pursued them in Austria for a hundred years after 1560. Protestants in turn did the same, such as occurred during Henry VIII's reign in England in the 1500's. Thus "witch" was used convenient label that could be used as a tool against one's enemies, political, cultural or personal. 2) Language itself-as I have so often mentioned- is a primary source of information about its author's attitudes towards phenomenon described. Do a literary deconstruction of Las Casas' language by making two lists of metaphors- one for Spaniards, the other for Indians- as these appear in his text. It is the tension between theses two sets of images which creates the dynamism in this text. Pay special attention to gender as you do this. Who is masculine, who is feminine and what are the implications thereof Consider the following section from Los Casas' description of the Spanish treatment of the Indians in Brief Account of the Devastation of the Indies (1542): Yet into this sheepfold, into this land of meek outcasts there came some Spaniards who immediately behaved like ravening wild beasts, wolves, tigers, or lions that had been starved for many days. And Spaniards have behaved in no other way during tla! past forty years, down to the present time, for they are still acting like ravening beasts, killing, terrorizing, afflicting, torturing, and destroying the native peoples, doing all this with the strangest and most varied lynneolson1979http://www.blogger.com/profile/04275987452549085202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7824668866458289213.post-36053017306952759702020-02-06T11:45:00.001-08:002020-02-06T11:45:02.710-08:00Growing a business strategy for Coffee Angel CourseworkGrowing a business strategy for Coffee Angel - Coursework Example Chris is of Turkish background and the business is family owned. Consider the legal principles influencing the likelihood of any successful action against Steve in negligence. Daria and her lover, Tom, were crossing the road on a pedestrian crossing when Tom was hit and killed by a car being negligently driven by Steve. The car missed Daria by inches. Since the incident Daria has had frequent nightmares and has been unable to return to work. Harry, a policeman patrolling the area, witnessed the incident and went to try to help Tom, but quickly realised that Tom was already dead. This was Harryââ¬â¢s first day back at work following six months recovering from psychiatric illness caused by the distressing nature of his job. As a result of seeing Tomââ¬â¢s injuries Harry has now suffered a return of the psychiatric damage which now appears permanent. Samira, a civilian worker in police traffic control, was watching a TV monitor which showed the road as the incident occurred. Samira recognised Tom as her husband whom she had not seen since the day, six months before, when he had left her and gone to live with Daria. Samira had always believed that, one day, he would return to her. She has suffered post traumatic stress disorder since the incident. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ In our given scenario we are asked to discuss legal principles influencing the likelihood of any successful action against Steve in the grounds of negligence. This instantly makes Hamlet doubt the ghost, which causes him to hesitate before seeking revenge for his fatherââ¬â¢s death until he has discovered the truth. Seeking the truth is one of Hamletââ¬â¢s obstacles as many layers cover it. He desires to know which religious belief system is the true one and the best to die by. This reflects on Renaissance society and Europe as they too were torn between two or even three, philosophical positions. By using a variety of religious ethics Shakespeare has made both the audience and Hamlet question which system is the true one. Arnold Kettle, in his essay entitled, ââ¬Å"Hamlet in a changing worldâ⬠states that, â⬠because of the death of Hamletââ¬â¢s father and the hasty marriage of his mother and his uncle, Hamletââ¬â¢s views of the world change. These views affect his ideas in every aspect possible and Hamlet has difficulty living with themâ⬠. Kettle believes that Hamlet was putting into practise new Renaissance humanism ideas. The theory of humanism rejects the abuse of tyranny, cruelty and murder; all three were present in England and the court of Denmark. Hamlet decides that he cannot accept this in Denmark because he sees this as rottenness and Claudius as the source of it. Wilson Knight, in his essay entitled, ââ¬Å"The Embassy of Deathâ⬠does not agree with Kettle as he states, ââ¬Å"Hamlet is inhuman. He has seen through humanity. And this inhuman cynicism, however justifiable in this case, on the plane of casualty and individual responsibility, is a deadly and venomous thingâ⬠. I agree with Kettle as Hamlet seems to be trying to maintain his humanism and he does this by seeking the truth so he can get his revenge and still live by the laws of God. He searches for evidence to back his theory that Claudius is the source of rottenness so he is able to kill him and rid Denmark of all its rottenness. If, like Knight states, Hamlet were inhuman he would not hesitate in getting his revenge as much as he does and he would not question all the different religious belief systems. In The Short Oxford History of English Literature, Andrew Sanders states that, â⬠Hamletââ¬â¢s public problem is how to avenge a political murder in a culture where private vengeance is politically and morally unacceptableâ⬠(page 157). I disagree with Andrew Sanders as I have collected evidence that shows that in the Renaissance there were groups that strongly believed that humans were god-like, thus able to carry out revenge. I do not think it was totally morally unacceptable in this society to seek revenge and I believe the Shakespearean audience would have been aware of this. Shakespeare has provided the clues for Hamlet and the audience in the plays imagery. The play is fuelled by images of poison, rot and decay. This is enveloped in the theme of illusion verses reality. Things appear in the play to be true and honest but the reality is that they are infested with evil. Shakespeare has included a lot of imagery that is related to the bible, particularly Genesis. This creates a different theme in the play, one of inherited sin and corruption. Humans are fallen creatures, victims of the devils trickery, according to Genesis. Shakespeare has used this throughout the play, as there are many references to Adam, the Garden of Eden and original sin. ââ¬Å"Tis given out that, sleeping in my orchard, A serpent stung me ââ¬â so the whole ear of Denmark Is forged process of my death Rankly abusââ¬â¢d ââ¬â but know, thou noble youth, The serpent that did sting thy fatherââ¬â¢s life Now wears his crownâ⬠. Act 1, scene 5, lines35-40. Here Shakespeare has used a metaphor to show that Claudius is perceived in this play as the devil, reflecting that Hamlet is not the only thing rotten in Denmark. Many of the characters hide behind masks of falseness and this makes it extremely difficult for Hamlet to uncover the truth that he desires in order to rid Denmark of Claudius and its rottenness. If Claudius is the devil, according to Humanist values, Hamlet could act god-like and do the state a favour and rid society of his infestation. If Hamlet followed his Christian ethics he would have to leave the justice to God and that would mean that society suffered. This would make the audience decide which belief system they would favour but would also bring in the question of what would happen to Hamlet when he died. Margreta de Grazia writes in her essay entitled, ââ¬Å"Hamletââ¬â¢s thoughts and anticsâ⬠that â⬠Hamlet fights against becoming rotten like Claudius, he struggles in a rotten world. He struggles to overcome his nausea by trying to unmask men, strip them of their fines appearances and show their true natureâ⬠. The one thing Hamlet does not want to do his lower himself to Claudiusââ¬â¢ level and this is reflected in the play when he refuses to kill Claudius while he is praying. â⬠Now might I do it pat, now a is a-praying. And now Iââ¬â¢ll do ââ¬Ët. (Draws his sword) And so a goes to heaven; And so I revengââ¬â¢d. that would be scannââ¬â¢d: A villain kills my father, and for that I, his sole son, do this same villain send To heavenâ⬠¦. â⬠Act 3, scene 3 lines 73-79 I agree with Grazia as she backs what I have suggested above that Hamlet wants to be the executioner and not the assassin, as this would make him as low as Claudius. Hamlet is battling with all the ethics that his society has to discover whether or not he holds the power to deal out justice as God would. In conclusion I would have to say that Prince Hamlet is not the only thing rotten in Denmark. And as T. S Eliot puts it in the 1920 essay called ââ¬ËThe Sacred Woodââ¬â¢, ââ¬Å"If Hamlet is rotten, why would it be a tragedy? ââ¬Å". The tragedy in this play is the fact that an intelligent, philosophical, sensitive character has been placed in a society that is rotten due to the King that governs it. My findings show that Claudius is the source of the rottenness in Denmark and Hamlet suffers against upholding traditional family values and his religious ethics. Hamlet has to put his ethics through every test imaginable, even at the risk of his own sanity. This does not make him rotten, this should make him commendable. Shakespeare has provided a character that wears his heart on his sleeve. We see every single one of his thought processes and watch in awe as he muddles through each dilemma. We watch as he loses his faith in mankind and achieve catharsis in the final scene when that faith seems to have been miraculously restored. This may be due to his coming to terms with his own fear of death or his realisation of mans role in the cosmos, we canââ¬â¢t be certain. But by having Hamlet regain some faith Shakespeare allows the audience and reader to regain their faith in mankind too. He is an example to us all. 3, 107 words (including extracts and quotes) 2, 264 words (excluding extracts and quotes) Shell Woodward. Placing a deserving candidate at a right place, at a right time ensures that the organisation would not perform below its targeted objectives. Within that context, a process of recruiting and selecting possesses a paramount importance as it is that door that facilitates new comers to become a part of a team. However, online recruitment and selection have considerably revolutionized this concept from the management points of view and from a potential applicantââ¬â¢s point of view. 13 Boots and Waitrose are two companies who are analysed from the managementââ¬â¢s perspective. The Boots management considers and values such depictions as a way to communicate with the potential employees. They believe that the content and messages being displayed on its recruitment website must be simple, easy to read and understandable, and it must deliver what the management expect that content to. On the other hand, Waitrose do not use images and pictures of its employee to depict the inside environment of Waitrose. Lithium Lithium is generally well absorbed, with a bioavailability that nears 100%. It has a reasonable volume of distribution of approximately 1 L/kg and half-life of roughly24 hours. Maintained-release formulations can reduce peak serum concentrations and commonly have clinically significant pharmacokinetic interactions with lithium (Su, Ryder, Li, Wu, Fox, and Solenberg 2004). First identified in 1940 by John Cade, an Australian researcher, earlier experiments with lithium showed it to have almost miraculous results on a group of individuals with established mania. Some of these individuals had spent several years in mental institutions. After lithium initiation, the symptoms disappeared and they were discharged. Despite its success, it was not until 1970 that the drug received FDA approval to be employed in the treatment of the disorder. Lithium is widely available in both sugar-free liquid forms and pill (Su, et al., 2004). Benefits In psychiatry, Lithium may as well be the well-studied medication. In a 2005 study conducted by the Center for Academic Integrity (www. academicintegrity. org), it was concluded that 40% of the 50,000 undergraduates asked admitted to having plagiarized from the internet. This is a very large jump over a span of six years, from only 10% in 1999 (Badke, 2007). It is becoming clear that educators, as well as students, need to become more familiar with what plagiarism is, what constitutes it, and how it can be avoided in order to ensure students are getting the most out of their online learning experience. Plagiarism is committed when someone takes the words or ideas of another and passes them off as his own. It is, essentially, intellectual stealing, and is not only ethically wrong, but prohibited by all educational establishments. Many people commit plagiarism without even realizing it. They may follow all the rules, paraphrasing, summarizing, etc. , but not properly cite the source where the idea was derived. Unfortunately, ignorance is not an acceptable defense. It is the same, for example, as being pulled over for driving 65 mph and telling the officer you did not know the speed limit was 35. The officer will most likely still issue a citation for speeding. Likewise, innocently taking credit for the work of another is plagiarism all the same (Alsaffar, 2006). More commonly, plagiarism is committed knowingly by the student and as a result of sheer laziness. In the vast world of the internet, information abounds for online students, as does the opportunity to reproduce, distribute and even share papers and projects. Students often find the desired information on the web, then cut and paste it into emails, class forums and assignments. Term paper websites are also out there, as well, advertising A+ papers for sale for a nominal fee per page (Villano, 2006). Plagiarism is not only prohibited, but hurtful to students for a variety of reasons. First of all, it violates federal copyright laws. Many students are blissfully unaware that information found on the web is, by default, copyrighted the moment it is put into a fixed format. What this means, is that any information on a publicly-accessible website is just as protected as an article found in an academic journal, and should be treated as such and cited appropriately. In the light of recent lawsuits against students infringing on the copyrighted material of record companies and movie studios, it is in the individualââ¬â¢s best interest to always give credit where credit is due. This should not, however, discourage students from taking full advantage of all of the information that is out there. Copyright laws were intended to promote the expansion of education and the enrichment of the population, while protecting the origination and originator of the words and ideas (Alsaffar, 2006). Plagiarism is also damaging to the students who commit it, as well as to the students who take the time to research and complete their own work. A student who is lazy and does not put in the full effort, is only hurting himself in the long run, because he is not thinking on his own and taking away the intended education from the assignment. On the other side of the spectrum, the student who puts in an honest effort and submits an original paper may receive a lower score than she actually deserves. This is often the case if plagiarism goes undetected and raises the bar for all others to receive an A on the paper. Legitimate work may seem inferior when compared to a paper that has sampled the ideas of more advanced and sophisticated authors (Villano, 2006) When considering the effects of plagiarism and copyright in an online environment, students need to proceed with caution. In an article titled, ââ¬Å"Copyright Concerns in Online Education: What Students Need to Know, ââ¬Å" Jackie Alsaffar says it best: ââ¬Å"Engagement with the content of a course is what higher education is all about, is at the heart of an intellectual life, and is an objective of every course taught, whether face-to-face or online. Yet far from being an abstract concept in the online course, copyright is an integral part of the online operation. â⬠Nearly everything that is read, observed, watched, listened to or written by the student in an online class is protected by copyright. It is for this reason that students enrolled in online colleges and universities need to be educated in ways to avoid plagiarism, not only to protect themselves from the possibility of copyright infringement, but to guarantee they are facilitating the learning process and receiving the knowledge from the course that is intended (Alsaffar, 2006). But what can be done to stem the rising tide of plagiarism? Teachers have been losing a technological war with their students over plagiarism for many years. Since the times when term papers and other assignments were written by hand, students have been willing to present work completed by other people as their own. Today with a greater array of tools available to students the plagiarism problem has exploded (Auer, 2001). From the simple cutting-and-pasting from un-cited sources to the use of searchable collections of term papers available for purchase, students have a huge selection of information and techniques that make it easier for them to commit plagiarism (Auer, 2001). However, teachers and educators are now starting to use the same technology to combat plagiarism. Software companies have heard the cry of teachers and have developed plagiarism detection software programs. Detection software products use various methods to accomplish and analyze papers written by students. The processes used by these programs include text matching, indexed sources, and style analysis of content (Kennedy, 2006). Each of the methods used to detect plagiarism has advantages and disadvantages. However, all are similar in that they attempt to detect plagiarism after it has been committed (Kennedy, 2006). Text matching software searches the internet looking for matches in words with indexed sources (Kennedy, 2006). Style analysis looks at the style in which a paper is written and then compares that style with work available on the internet (Kennedy, 2006). Both of these methods also compare phrases to help detect plagiarism (Kennedy, 2006). Detection technology based on matching text and style analysis from previous papers written by other student and the Internet has inherent limitations and does not always work (Johnson, Patton, Bimber, Almeroth, Michaels, 2004). There are many reasons why detection software may not work. There are three reasons that are the most common as to why plagiarism is not detected. The first reason is the web sources cited may have been removed from the internet between the time it was cited in the paper and when the paper was checked (Kennedy, 2006). The second reason is there is no set image of the web. This means the web is ever changing and the software can lag behind the current state of the Internet. It is possible that a web source cited in a paper is a new addition to the web or is located in a newly developed section of the web (Kennedy, 2006). The third reason for failure is the software does not have access to all subscription web sites that contain sources of information on the web (Kennedy, 2006). In reality, only a small fraction of total Internet content can be analyzed by the plagiarism software (Kennedy, 2006). There is some detection software that can enter a limited number of subscription sites. However, these sites are few and far between. Most sites including such as Lexis-Nexis, EBSCO, Swets, and others do not allow access into their databases by detection software (Auer, 2001). Some educators and teachers find another problem with plagiarism detecting software. They feel that text matching technology does not help differentiate between the inadvertent act of plagiarism and from the intentional plagiarist (Johnson, Patton, Bimber, Almeroth, Michaels, 2004). The software cannot provide the teacher with any insights as to the intent of the student. Some teacher feel that this will lead to an atmosphere of guilty until proven innocent where students are forced to prove their innocence and that they did not commit plagiarism (Auer, 2001). Teachers still feel there is a place for plagiarism detecting software. Having the ability to compare studentââ¬â¢s papers with plagiarism detecting software is an iatrical part of a prevention program when coupled with punishment. The punishment of students that commit plagiarism serves two purposes. One it punishes the student that violate the rules and it deters other students from committing the same behavior (Johnson, Patton, Bimber, Almeroth, Michaels, 2004). The best way to deter students from committing plagiarism is to publicize the fact that studentââ¬â¢s work will be checked for plagiarism with plagiarism detecting software and students found cheating will be punished (Johnson, Patton, Bimber, Almeroth, Michaels, 2004). If students are completely unaware that detection software is being used and punishment of plagiarist will occur, there will be little or no deterrent to students from participating in this type of dishonesty (Johnson, Patton, Bimber, Almeroth, Michaels, 2004). On the other hand, where deterrence is prevalent and it is known that the students work will be checked, little or no punishment may occur. Plagiarism has become an ever increasing problem since the introduction of the World Wide Web and online research. Teachers and educators can sit back and do nothing or they can take a stand to combat the problem. Teachers can use all the technology available to prevent and detect plagiarism. Educational institutions can publicize the fact that work submitted by student will be checked with plagiarism detecting software and violators will be punished. However, the only true prevention is ethics. Studentââ¬â¢s ethics and academic integrity must be taught at an early age to instill these values in students (Kennedy, 2006). Teachers and educators all agree that the best way to avoid plagiarism is to create an atmosphere in which it is unlikely to occur. It is important for parents, teachers, and the academic institutions to promote academic integrity and student ethics (Kennedy, 2006). Without ethics and integrity todayââ¬â¢s students will continue to commit cut and paste plagiarism. lynneolson1979http://www.blogger.com/profile/04275987452549085202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7824668866458289213.post-10783265043297809512019-12-03T10:02:00.001-08:002019-12-03T10:02:04.050-08:00Migration, labor mobility and growth in Canada Table of Contents Introduction Labor Mobility and Canadaââ¬â¢s Economic Growth Labor mobility and the Labor Canadian Labor Markets Migration and Canadian Labor Markets Migration and its potential to Canadian Economy Conclusion Works Cited Introduction Canada has achieved a tremendous growth in its economy because of various factors. Analysts on Canadian economy show that the country has made a significant progress as a result of the influx of immigrants and labor mobility in the country. Besides, the Canadian economy has been boosted because of its open policy which few countries in the world uphold.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Migration, labor mobility and growth in Canada specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Concisely, the Canadian open policy has encouraged different categories of workers to immigrate into the country. The policy has simplified migration of people because it evaluates their level of ski lls and competency to grant entry. This policy, and others established by the government have allowed workers to either relocate as permanent workers, temporary foreign worker, TFW or as foreign students. Also, labor mobility contributed to the countryââ¬â¢s economic growth and development. Labor mobility designate privileges which a worker is accorded when exploiting new opportunities in line with his/her profession. It allows a worker to go beyond his/her jurisdiction or whenever the opportunity emerges. Labor mobility has granted workers wider field of searching for jobs besides exposing employers to more workers with different skills and competencies. The author in this paper explores the contribution of immigrants and labor mobility to the economic development of Canada. In achieving this goal, the author outlines the government involvement in supporting labor mobility through policy frameworks. The author notes that migration and labor mobility has contributed to the econom ic growth of Canada because they have provided wider economic opportunities both for the worker and employer. Moreover, the author provides a historical and economic justification of migration and explores the Canadian policies contributing to the large influx of immigrants to the country, and the importance of their immigrations to Canadaââ¬â¢s economic growth. In summary, migration and labor mobility has facilitated free movement of people, allowed the nation to fill the void created by low birth rates and supported service industries in accessing qualified foreign workers they need. Labor Mobility and Canadaââ¬â¢s Economic Growth Devoretz (89) shows that annually, about 200,000 Canadians relocate to different jurisdictions to search for employment opportunities; this aspect, Head and John (48) point out that it has assisted the Canadian economy to grow and expand. Besides, it has contributed to recognition of qualifications across the country, and benefited both the employe rs and employees (Devoretz 91). Canadian government encourages labor mobility. It has formulated policies such as the Agreement on Internal Trade, AIT to streamline labor mobility practices.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Head et al (70) point out that this policy, which was signed in 1994 by the territorial and provincial governments and the government of Canada, allows investment, services and people to move freely across Canada. Head and John (49) note that by embracing this provision, AIT permits any qualified person in any Canadian jurisdiction to access similar opportunities in other parts of the country. The AIT work towards eliminating barriers associated with mobility shift such as residency requirements, differences in employment standards and practices connected to occupational certification, registration and licensing (Head and John, 50). Labor mobility and the Labor Canadian Labor Markets AIT has played a key role in Canadian labor market. It has partnered with other professionals and government agencies, which help regulate hundreds of trade and occupations across the country (Head and John 52). The government agencies and professional groups work on a common consensus in regard to the qualifications required to ensure their wider recognition. Head and John (50) indicate that Canada has over 60 regulated professions, and among them 51 have been synchronized in two or more territories and provinces. Some of the regulated occupations include teaching, architecture, nursing and doctors. Consequently, Devoretz (67) cite that other trades such as plumbing, automobile mechanics and electrical are also regulated through licensing. Also, other policies such as Forum of Labor Market Ministers support inter-jurisdictional cooperation and consultation on labor markets (Coulombe and Frank 92). This policy is important in supporting inter-jurisdictio n understanding on matters such as labor market and forums for achieving mobility goals. Similarly, it has promoted the mobility of highly skilled workers with mobile qualifications. Devoretz (60) asserts that the Forum of Labor Market Ministers has developed and expanded inter-jurisdictional standards. These standards have increased the quality of labor in Canada. Also, FLMM has aligned the Canadians work requirements with economic structures, and provided the inter-jurisdictional association in order to facilitate participatory structures through labor force development boards. The impact of labor mobility to the Canadian economy has been significant. Devoretz (63) cites increase in labor demand for the production goods and services and reduction of administrative barriers in people as the contribution of FLMM. These developments have increased the capacity of organizations to meet labor requirements, and workers to find employment opportunities across the borders.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Migration, labor mobility and growth in Canada specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Migration and Canadian Labor Markets Canada is a country with higher rate of immigration in the world. It is among the countries in the western world that promote widespread immigration. In response to global migrations, the Canadian government has devised immigration policies, which favor its economic growth and expansion (Head et al 69). These policies have enabled the country access the appropriate number of immigrant workers with the right skills. Similarly, the country has developed more strategic and responsive immigration structures that support fast tracking of people with the skills needed by employers and aggressively marketing Canada globally. This is done with an aim of making people view Canada as a place of skilled immigrants. Strategic responses have been sought through sustaining structural and instit utional reforms. Reforms in these areas have ignited migration of skilled workers in the country. Head et al (67) denote substantial reform which the government as Temporary foreign Worker, TFW, and valuing international students among others as the key elements promoting Canadian economic growth. In regard to TFW, the Canadian immigration policy knows that a person having sufficient skills is vital for Canadian businesses to compete and succeed globally. Thus, this aspect has made Canadian employers to look for foreign workers across the borders to achieve this goal. Similarly, the Canadian government values international students. Foreign students undertaking their studies in Canadian institutions of higher learning develop ties with the Canadian labor market through working off- campus. Once they complete their studies, they are allowed to look for work in Canadian companies. Coulombe and Frank (92) cite that international students inject over $ 6.5 billion in the Canadian econom y annually. Migration and its potential to Canadian Economy Migration and labor mobility is marked by distinctive features in terms of gender and culture, skill set and geographical ties. It can be both temporal and permanent. Head et al (74) shows that immigration influences an economy in a number of ways, which can be either, be positive or negative. This is because the high influx of immigrants increases labor supply, which tends to reduce domestic pay and wages among domestic workers. Thus, the scale of the impact on employment depends in the resilience of the domestic market. If domestic wages are vibrant, then, the impact on employment may be significant. However, if the domestic wages are elastic, then, the impact on employment is likely to be smaller (Coulombe and Frank, 90). Thus, Canadian has attracted immigrants because of its elasticity in domestic wage.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Consequently, the Canadian government does not tolerate the economic peril of population turn down. In this regard, various organizations such as the DRI-McGraw Hill have supported the countryââ¬â¢s immigration policy. Though they consider the countryââ¬â¢s policies reduces immigration levels, and contributes to short-term costs, in the long run, they view immigration has an essential tool for boosting economic output and employment in the country. Similarly, the Economic Council of Canada notes that immigration in the country should be encouraged and supported. In one of its findings, it indicated that the immigrants contributed significantly to the economic development of the country. Similarly, the Royal Bank of Canada in 1995 reported that the Canadian government should strengthen the countryââ¬â¢s immigration rate from 30 percent rate to 400,000 per year (Coulombe and 92). This is in order to promote the countyââ¬â¢s per Capita income and sustain economic growth. Pe rsonal Perspective I reckon that immigration and labor mobility is instrumental in reshaping Canadaââ¬â¢s economy. Labor mobility helps reduce immigration which results in a number of economic benefits to a host country. One such benefit a country accrues from these practices is the increase in labor supply. I concur with Coulombe and Frank (88) that a country experience labor increase because labor mobility allows more workers to enter the countryââ¬â¢s economy; this increases the overall labor supply. The increase accompanied by a fixed labor market lead to decrease in wage rates. Also, labor mobility influences a worker in various ways. First, it provides the worker with a prospect of improving his/her financial situation. This happens when a worker is allowed to move freely or train for a new job. If this happens, a worker feels happy and transmits the same in enhancing productivity. Secondly, labor mobility is a driver for the general economic growth of a country. This is in terms of how the economy embraces technology and competitive advantage. Besides, the restrictions confined to workers in regard on how they move around, either occupationally or geographically inhibit growth by making it more challenging for industries to hire the right workers. Conclusion Migration and labor mobility is essential for any economy in the world. It allows people to search for employment opportunities and lead a better life. Consequently, when governments place fewer restrictions on where people move and what occupations are fit for them, they find it easy to apply for any occupation in which they have the right skill and interest. Also, businesses gain productivity and improve the welfare of its employees through aspects such as training, motivation and welfare programs among others. Through such practices, a country is assured of economic growth besides promoting the welfare of its citizens. Essay A man is not defined by his muscles, his facial hair, what he wears, what he drives, or by how much money he makes. The common assumption a lot of guys have is that being male automatically makes them men. Dont get me wrong a person must be male to be a man, but it is not the sole qualification for becoming a good man. A real man is one who takes care of lifes responsibilities. Such responsibilities may include obligations to family, friends, career, and community. A real man is a role model and he respects women.Negative media that degrades women does not influence a real man. Real men dont measure themselves by the success of other men. Real men dont quit. Real men are mentally strong as well as physically strong. Real men are open-minded; they are not racist, sexist, or homophobic. Real men respect the opposing viewpoints of others even though they may disagree with them. A real man values education and is always ready to learn. A real man is confident in himself but he is not arr ogant. A real man knows himself and his limits.A boy grows from a teenager to a man when he reaches certain milestones in his life. When a teenager graduates from high school he is no longer considered a child. He must go and make a productive life for himself. When a guy gets a job, starts college, earns his drivers license, opens his own bank account, starts paying bills, begins to date, and he begins to make his own decisions in life, he should be considered a man. Some kids grow up quick; therefore I believe that a man cannot be defined by age. A boy becomes a man as soon as he is successfully able to handle adult responsibilities. Some kids are not only expected to attend school and get good grades but they also have to deal with chores, run errands, and act as the man of the house because there is no father around. These kids learn the importance of family early and are often put under more physical and mental stress than the average adolescent is.Family is the foundation of o ur society and the father is a major part of the family foundation. Having children scattered across the country doesnt prove a persons manhood. A man should love his wife, but if for whatever reason they are unable to stay together, he should not hold his children responsible. A real man would never desert his family. Any guy can have a child but only a real man can be a good father to his child. Many children are negatively effected when there is no father present in the home. A father must provide guidance, support, and love to his children. The man is also responsible for at least fifty percent of the family income. He should make sure that all of the familys needs are met. A man is responsible for keeping food in the fridge and clothes on his childrens backs. He has to pay the utility bills, which include, water, electric, gas, the phone, etc. A family needs a good house to live in; therefore the man needs to keep the mortgage paid. The family car has to stay gassed up and in go od working order. The car note and the insurance need to be paid. The wife and kids will need health insurance, and so does the house.Friends are also an important part of family. People cannot lead healthy lives without friends who they trust and are able to confide in. A good man is loyal to his friends. Not only does he hang out with them and go to parties but also he is there for them in times of need. A good friend listens and gives practical advice when it is asked of him. Friends do favors for each other. A real man is a good friend. If a man expects to financially support his family he must have a career that will allow him to comfortably do so. There are not many options for good employment available to men that dont have a college education. Most men who do not have a good education must settle for menial labor jobs, which require little skill and education. The average menial labor job pays small wages. The cost of living is constantly rising and it is harder to support a family with these types of jobs. A man is not defined by what he does or by how much money he makes, but if he cannot earn enough money to handle his responsibilities, he is not a real man. A real man strives to be the best that he can be. An adult male with three children cannot handle his responsibilities with a weekly check from McDonalds unless he is a store manager or a franchise owner. If a person is flipping burgers at thirty-five than they havent tried to be the best that they could be.All of a mans responsibilities tie in to his obligation to his surrounding community. A persons community consists of a city or town, state, and country. A man fulfills his duty to his community by successfully carrying out the demands of manhood. A man is expected to be a good citizen. A good man works, pays taxes, and votes. A real a man raises his children to be good citizens as well. A man should respect women. A good man keeps his house in order and helps keep his neighborhood clean. Real man care about the environment and they contribute to society through their work. Men have a lot of responsibilities to take care of in life. It is the real men that handle these responsibilities and emerge as the leaders of society. .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48 , .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48 .postImageUrl , .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48 , .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48:hover , .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48:visited , .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48:active { border:0!important; } .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48:active , .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48 .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u842443ac36d28da06c7d5c4ec106aa48:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Levine, Jake Essay We will write a custom essay on What Determines Manhood? specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now lynneolson1979http://www.blogger.com/profile/04275987452549085202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7824668866458289213.post-23087898107911232442019-11-23T21:15:00.001-08:002019-11-23T21:15:04.660-08:00Free Essays on SatanismDevà "He blessed nonentity with every curse/ And spiced with sorrow the dull soul of sense,/ Breathed life into the sterile universe,/ With love and Knowledge drove out innocence/ The Key of Joy is disobedience."
